About Us

Ron Wiskus started Hawkeye Builders in Storm Lake, Iowa while completing his B.A. from Buena Vista College. Between 1970 and 1985 he completed a wide range of construction projects, the following are some of these:

  • Designed and built numerous hog confinement buildings using all natural ventilation.

  • Designed and built numerous farrowing buildings that were installed with floor heating systems.

  • Designed, engineered and built the first dry fertilizer storage using 12-inch concrete divider stalls that were 16 feet tall.

  • Built a professional dental building that housed four tenants.

  • Rebuilt the Harbor House, a popular restaurant after a major fire, undertaking the unique design and construction of the salad bar area that resembled the back of Magellan’s ship complete with rudder and a 25-foot mast and sail.Brad Wiskus

  • Remodeled a hairdressing establishment.

  • Complete remodel of seven homes.

  • Built 12 custom homes, most of which were on lake-front property.

  • Gutted and remodeled an existing property which became the Staircase Disco.

  • Built petroleum storage distribution facilities.

  • Built grain storage bins.

  • Built numerous kitchen and bathroom remodels.

In January 1985, Ron and family relocated to San Diego, California. Ron was hired by Cal Coast Construction, a company specializing in insurance repair work as a field supervisor. During his time at Cal Coast, Ron completed many projects including some of the following:

  • Subsidized repairs.

  • Earthquake retrofits.

  • Rebuilding of University Mechanical after it was destroyed by an arson fire in 1990.

In the mid 1990s Ron left Cal Coast Construction and started up Hawkeye Builders in San Diego. It was shortly after this time that son Brad joined the company and became the main source of energy, craftsmanship and job coordination. By the late 1990s, Ron and Brad decided to move on from insurance repair work and began to do room additions, kitchen and bathroom remodels and custom home building including the two homes they reside in today.
